Klopp and Frimpong Hail Wirtz Arrival at Liverpool
Liverpool’s signing of Florian Wirtz has received a warm welcome from both former manager Jurgen Klopp and new teammate Jeremie Frimpong, as excitement builds around the club-record-breaking £116-million arrival from Bayer Leverkusen.
Klopp – speaking to a local news outlet on Sunday, 22 June – praised the Reds’ ambition following their English Premier League title triumph, calling Wirtz “an exceptional talent” and highlighted the difficulty of improving a championship-winning squad.
“It’s very hard to strengthen a team when you’re champions,” he said. “But Liverpool have managed it.”
Frimpong, who also made the switch from Leverkusen this summer, is thrilled to be reunited with Wirtz after their successful partnership in Germany. “He’s a very, very, very special player,” Frimpong told another media outlet. “Flo doesn’t crumble under pressure – he likes pressure.”
Wirtz arrives off the back of a stellar 2023–24 campaign, in which he helped Leverkusen to a historic 51-game unbeaten streak, domestic double win – The Bundesliga and German Cup – and contributed heavily in both goals and assists. Now 22 years old, he joins a dynamic Liverpool midfield already featuring Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Gravenberch.
With Mohamed Salah staying put and Arne Slot taking the reins, Wirtz’s addition signals Liverpool’s intent to maintain their dominance in English football.
